Joining Lifecraft

When Lifecraft started in Ely, I decided to give it a try as I trusted them, I’ve never, ever been a group person. In fact, I would actively avoid them. However, its turned out to be a lifeline for me – I’ve actually made friends who I look forward to seeing every week. I’ve gone from a very solitary & isolated person, to someone who can go to a safe space – learn new things in a supportive environment and am the most sociable I’ve been for probably 20 years or so. It’s one of the best things I’ve done to support my mental health.

“It’s one of the best things I’ve done to support my mental health.”

I had never done art and turned up saying stuff like “I can’t draw, I’ll be rubbish!” After a couple of weeks I really started to enjoy it. Karen is incredibly encouraging & supportive. I’ve been able to experiment with different mediums & the range of source materials & paper, paint etc provided is amazing. It’s a few months later now and I’m hooked! I find it really helps me turn off the brain chatter & I do some sort of art at home now on a regular basis. I’ve fallen in love with it and its one of the few things that give me joy. It’s not something I ever would have done if it wasn’t for doing it at Lifecraft.

I’ve always enjoyed writing, but didn’t know what to expect with this. Evie was lovely and very understanding because at least one person cried each week! Because it was a closed group, we all trusted each other and could be very open with each other & ourselves. I found it very inspirational & now have quite a selection of poetry books. I continue to write as I find it helps me to get my thoughts out of my head & onto paper. I loved it and hope we can do it again in the future”
