Groups + activities

We know it can be hard to find somewhere to be yourself. Where you can be honest about your struggles and know you won’t be judged. Our groups and activities help us connect with others, learn new skills, and build our confidence. We also have some much-needed fun.

A safe space where you can be yourself

“I’ve never, ever been a group person. In fact, I would actively avoid them. However, it’s turned out to be a lifeline for me – I’ve actually made friends who I look forward to seeing every week.”

FAQs

I don’t like talking to people I don’t know. Which groups are best for me to attend?

No one will make you chat if you don’t want to. Art, Craft, and Mindfulness groups are probably the easiest if you don’t want to talk to other people. There’s also no pressure to chat at Social Hubs and Drop-Ins, but they do tend to be a bit noisier.

If I come along to a group or drop-in, will I feel left out because I don’t know anyone?

We will try our best to make you feel welcome and introduce you to others as and when you feel comfortable. Some people like to sit quietly while having a drink and others find it easier to join in with a game or two (you don’t need to have previously played, we’ll teach you the rules!). We are all here for the same reason.

I feel nervous about coming along to the group for the first time. Can you help me?

Some people find it helpful to bring a friend or support worker with them when they first come along. If that’s not possible, let us know that you need some extra help and together we’ll make a plan to support you. For example, we can meet you outside, show you around the building, or introduce you to people.

Will people expect me to talk about how I’m feeling?

No. It’s completely up to you to decide what you want to tell people about yourself.

I find noisy places difficult. Are some groups quieter than others?

Our art sessions are usually the quietest of our groups, but people are still free to talk amongst themselves. Resilience group is facilitated and limited to one person speaking at a time, which also means it is fairly quiet and you don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to. Even social hubs can be quiet, but there is no guarantee because it depends on how many people turn up on the day.

Will I be the odd one out? Will I fit in?

We’re all here because we struggle with our mental health and so, in that sense, no one is the odd one out. However, we all have different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. At Lifecraft we value each other’s uniqueness, we welcome you, and help you find your place in our community.
