Maria explains what you can expect
The personal development day covers what is coaching (so you’re clear), identifying your values, the importance of personal boundaries, and communication skills. It also supports our well-being through learning and discussion in a relaxed and welcoming environment. We promise no role-play or formal group introductions.
Coaching FAQs
Do I have to be a Lifecraft member to access coaching?
No, the coaching service is open to non-members, however, you must be 18 or older and have experience of mental health issues.
What’s the difference between coaching and counselling?
Coaching is focused on the here, now and the future, it’s about action and going towards a goal or outcome, raising awareness of our own beliefs and motivators. Counselling and therapeutic approaches are about healing and resolving past events.
I hate group sessions, can I just do one-to-one coaching?
Currently we can only offer coaching to those who have completed our one day Introduction Training. It is a short day and covers what coaching is, key topics often raised for example, identifying values and personal boundaries. The group is usually between 8 and 13 people, Maria ensures a relaxed, welcoming and respectful environment.
What happens in the one-to-one sessions
Maria will introduce how she works, times and regularity, meetings are usually every two to three weeks. It’s an equal professional partnership so you will work together on what you choose. It can be helpful think about what you would like to get out of the meetings beforehand.
Do I need to pick a fixed area to make progress on?
No, Maria will help you with this, sometimes goals and aims come later as you go through the meetings. It’s helpful to think about what you would like to get out of the coaching and this may change which is common. You are in control, it’s your session so you soon realise you can explore ideas not just a fixed goal.
What qualifications does my coach have?
Maria is qualified at Post Graduate level from Barefoot Coaching and University of Chester, International Coaching Accredited course. She is a member of the Universal Coaching Alliance and holds a Mental Health First Aid certificate and has over fifteen years of experience in coaching and mentoring.
“I’ve never ever been a group person… However, it turned out to be a lifeline for me – I’ve actually made friends who I look forward to seeing every week.”
